Richard L. Sayre

    Richard L. Sayre is a principal in the law firm of Sayre and Sayre, P.S., Spokane, Washington.  Mr. Sayre received his undergraduate degree from the University of Washington in 1976, and his JD (Juris Doctorate) from Gonzaga University School of Law in 1979.  He serves on the Spokane County Superior Court Guardianship Committee, as a Trustee on the Executive Committee of the Washington State Bar Association Elder Law Section, and is a member of the American Bar Association, the Washington State Bar Association, the Spokane County Bar Association, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, where he served as 1995-1996 Washington State Chapter President, the Special Needs Alliance and the Spokane Estate Planning Council.  He is a former Chair of the Washington State Bar Association’s Continuing Legal Education Committee, and served from 1998 through September of 2004 on the Washington State Professional Guardian Certification Board, a position appointed by the Supreme Court of Washington.  He is also an Adjunct Professor of Law at Gonzaga University School of Law in Spokane, Washington.  His practice emphasizes estate and disability planning and estate tax issues, governmental benefits law for disabled individuals, special needs trusts and Elder Law.  He has been certified as an Elder Law Attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation, and has been designated a “Super Lawyer” by the publication Washington Law and Politics for the years 2000 through 2008, based upon a peer rating survey which selected less than five percent of Washington lawyers for this distinction, and was selected 2005 Member of the Year by the Washington Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.  He was named as one of the Best Lawyers in Spokane by Spokane Magazine in 2005 2006, 2007 and 2008.  He is a frequent speaker on Elder Law and estate planning and taxation issues throughout the State of Washington.

Karen L. Sayre

     Karen L. Sayre is a principal in the law firm of Sayre and Sayre, P.S., Spokane, Washington.  Ms. Sayre received her undergraduate degree from Gonzaga University in 1980 and her JD (Cum Laude) from Gonzaga University in 1985.  She is a member of the Washington State Bar Association, as well as the American Bar Association, the Spokane and Lincoln County Bar Associations, Washington Women Lawyers (Spokane Chapter President, 1988; Woman of the Year, 1991), and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.  She is the 2006-2007 President of the Spokane Estate Planning Council, a Past-President of the Women Helping Women Fund, Past-Chair of the Washington State Bar Association Elder Law Section, member of the Washington State Bar Association’s MCLE Committee, and is an Adjunct Professor of Law at Gonzaga University School of Law.  She serves on the Women Helping Women Vivian Winston Scholarship Committee, and has served as a member of the Board of Directors of Law Fund, an organization dedicated to providing legal services to the poor.  Karen currently serves as a member of the Board of Regents of Gonzaga University.  She is a certified Elder Law Attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation, an American Bar Association approved board certification organization.   Karen has also been designated a “Super Lawyer” by the publication Washington Law and Politics for the years 2000, 2002, 2003, 2005. 2006, 2007 and 2008, and was named in Spokane Magazine’s Best Lawyers in Spokane survey in 2005, 2007 and 2008.  Her practice emphasizes estate and disability planning, governmental benefits law for disabled individuals and Elder Law.  She is a frequent speaker on Elder Law and disability issues.
